Atlas Mountains Day Trip

Your day trip to the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech starts with meeting your 4×4 driver/guide at your hotel or riad. You will drive south of the city through the Haouz plains to Agafay desert. From here, you will enjoy an off-the-beaten-track drive to the lake of Lalla Takerkoust, where you will stop to take photos and enjoy the view. You can take an optional 30-minute camel ride on the slopes of the Atlas Mountains.

After that, you will continue your drive through the tiny mountainous roads to Kik Plateau while admiring the views of Berber villages scattered on both sides. Your next stop is Fadma’s humble mud brick house. She’s a generous Berber lady who will host you and prepare a tea ceremony. She will also bake homemade bread to dip into extra virgin olive oil.

After the tea ceremony, you will continue your Atlas Mountain journey through rough terrains to Imlil village. You will leave your 4×4 and enjoy an hour-long moderate hike to “Aroumd”, a tiny Berber village located at the heart of Toubkal National Park. “Aroumd” is famous for its splendid views of Toubkal Mountain, the highest peak of North Africa (4 167 m / 13,671 ft high). There is also a small waterfall on the way that you should take advantage of, and your local guide will show you the way there.

Next, you will have a delicious Berber Tagine lunch served by a host family in “Aroumd” Village. After lunch, you will descend back to Imlil and enjoy a smooth ride back to Marrakech through Tahennaout, the main town in the region, where the weekly market takes place every Tuesday.

Your Marrakech to the Atlas Mountains day trip will end around 17h00 with a drop off at your hotel or riad in Marrakech.
